Villa Clara was founded in 1960, when Doro and Lucia Bonora decided to build a small guesthouse with a restaurant and five rooms in Torbole.

Lucia already knew the restaurant business well, while Doro, a bricklayer and the owner of a small building company, contributed his work and experience to the project. Together they created Pensione Clara, named after their first-born daughter.

Tourism on Lake Garda was still in its early days, and the first guests came mainly from Germany. The guesthouse grew quickly: by 1961, the number of rooms had increased from five to thirty and the restaurant had been extended. Open all year round and also welcoming non-resident guests, it became a meeting place for guests, Torbole residents and passing travelers.

In the early 1980s, the restaurant closed and Pensione Clara gradually became Hotel Villa Clara. Since then, the hotel has undergone many changes, adapting to the evolving needs of tourism.

In 1992, management passed to the siblings Clara, Rosy and Claudio. Lorenza joined the family business at the end of the 1990s.

Even after more than 60 years, Villa Clara retains its pleasure in welcoming guests, its close ties to the local area and the memory of all the people who have crossed its threshold over the years.
